Alongside using my practice to understand and explore the invisible aspects that have shaped my life, last year I began to look at how visible element have shaped it too.
Rosacea is a long-term skin condition that mainly affects the face. I have tried lots of different treatments, but nothing has been affective. It has always negatively impacted my view of myself, especially when others have commented on it.
Inspired by the 1980s Dartmouth Scar experiment where researchers pretended to put scars on participants faces who then went into the world and they believed they were experiencing prejudice despite the scars having been removed before they left, I decided to rethink my view of not just my skin but myself.
This image is the beginning of this journey into deconstructing the unconscious elements that have shaped my identity to date.
